Young families can keep children secure with life insurance

Posted on Wed, September 29, 2010

A family that has just welcomed a child into the world has a lot on their minds. A new addition to the family means many changes are on the horizon. Making sure a home and environment is safe should be on the forefront of a parent's mind.

Underwriters Laboratories commissioned Sperling's Best Places to establish a list of the safest cities for those with young children.

Boston was rated the top city for families with young children by the survey. Benchmarks included laws on smoking, home inspections and bike helmets.

UL public safety officer Gus Schaefer says it's clear many cities are taking action to make their communities safe.

"Just as cities are continually trying to take steps to improve safety and prevent accidents, families should do the same," says Schaefer. "Even taking a few actions can cut a family's risk of accidents significantly and encourage safety-conscious behaviors that can last a lifetime."

Furthermore, families should do whatever they can to keep their family safe and secure. In addition to living quarters, that means having adequate life insurance. An expanding family will most likely need a different level of life insurance than it carried before children entered the picture.
