Life insurance companies among most productive in the UK

A new study by employment testing service, Profiles International, has found that life insurance providers are among the most productive companies operating in the UK. It revealed that, in an assessment of UK companies, insurance provider St James’s Place and life insurance giant Legal and General appeared in the top 10 most productive companies in the country.

Soco, a natural resources exploration firm, came out top, generating GBP6.1 million of revenue for each full-time employee. St James’s Place, on the other hand, was second, with revenue per full-time employee amounting to GBP5 million, and Legal and General were third with GBP4.7 million in revenue being generated per employee.

Of the top 10 most productive companies, five were found to be in the natural resources sector, and four in the insurance industry, with the other entrant being a financial services firm, Intermediate Capital Group.

The survey, which analysed financial data from 600 companies in the London Stock Exchange, showed that a company that was performance-driven and had effective management that encouraged innovation usually achieved higher productivity using this measurement.

Martin Goodwill, managing director of Profiles International, commented "It is more important than ever for companies to benchmark their people processes to ensure they maximise the productivity of the people they employ."

Again, keeping the British end up in life insurance is good to see. Though I doubt it’s really about life insurance and more to do with company structure and benefits. One company in the same sector copies a rival, to keep and poach better staff etc is the order of the day methinks. Though a win for the whole industry, giving a positive shine on all the companies.
